Take this test and change your life.

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Take this test and change your life.  Research has shown, not just once or twice but repeatedly, that for most people your smile outranks your eyes, hair and body as your most attractive feature.  It is probably also the first thing you notice or avoid when you look in the mirror or at a photograph of yourself. Only you know how your smile has affected your happiness and success.

Ask yourself:

Are you totally happy with the way your teeth and smile look?

Do you habitually hide your smile with your lips or your hands when you smile?

Do you try not to smile in front of others, especially people you don’t know or have terrific smiles?

When the camera comes out do you avoid smiling?

Would you like a smile that makes you feel proud and confident?

Once you have decided to improve your smile Dr. Lerner, Dr. Lemongello and our dental team is here to help you explore your options to improve your smile.  Teeth whitening, Veneers, Crowns, Implants, Invisalign all can help create your ideal smile often in only one or two visits.  We look forward to helping you pass this test.

When considering cosmetic dentistry with Porcelain veneers

Monday, September 28th, 2009

When considering cosmetic dentistry and porcelain veneers it is important for you to be diligence with who you are considering treatment.  All dentists are not the same and their experience in treating cosmetic cases varies based on their training and number of patients treated.  When considering cosmetic dentistry the dentist should be able to show you numerous cases of satisfied patients who have completed treatment.  Ask questions about smiles and smile makeovers that are similar to yours.  Review before and after photographs of the smiles treated with veneers.  Where you have a smile makeover is as important as deciding to have treatment.  It is up to you to make the best choice and have the best outcome.

Cosmetic dentists promise beautiful smiles but how do you know if they can deliver?

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

A beautiful smile is a big part of our appearance.  Cosmetic dentists promise beautiful smiles but how do you know if they can deliver?  Any dentist can call themselves a cosmetic dentist but does that mean they are qualified to provide you with the smile makeover you have dreamed about?  The cosmetic dentistry field has changed rapidly over the years.  A dentist who has not taken post graduate training in cosmetic dentistry may not be current with these advancements.  When considering cosmetic dentistry especially with porcelain veneers, look for training from well known graduate programs such as the Aesthetic Institute at New York University.  Our office is prepared to meet your cosmetic dentistry needs and not only have Drs. Lerner and Lemongello completed postgraduate training they teach at these institutes as well, lecturing nationally and internationally on diverse cosmetic dentistry topics.  Our patients understand what to look for when considering cosmetic dentistry.

Lumineers, What are my options?

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Lumineers, What are my options?  Lumineers are one type of porcelain veneer designed for prep-less or minimal preparation type porcelain veneer cases.  It is important to realize that there is not just one certain brand of ceramic, one particular manufacturer, or one specific laboratory that can create prep-less veneers.  The prep-less or minimal prep veneer is a technique, not a specific product.  Any ceramic can be used, and there are many expert ceramists who can give you wonderful results.  Success is reliant on the skill of the dentist and the ceramist.  It is also dependent on case selection and proper diagnosis of what is the best material and technique to achieve the best result according to the patients’ expectation.    Prep-less veneers may not be indicated for every case or even the majority of the cases but it should be available as an option.  Like Dr. Lerner and Dr Lemongello the doctor needs to be versed and proficient in all techniques.  In our office we will listen to your needs and provide guidance for you to make an informed choice.

Lumineers. Are they right for you?

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Lumineers.  Are they right for you?  Lumineers, like traditional porcelain veneers, are ultra thin custom fabricated pieces of porcelain that are fabricated and bonded to the existing tooth to change its color, shape, position or to restore decay.   Lumineers are marketed as requiring no removal of tooth structure to enhance your smile.  The idea of removing mininmal amounts of tooth structure in the placement of veneers is not new.  In our office the goal has always been to be as minimally invasive as possible when providing porcelain veneers to enhance a smile.  Even though Lumineers claim to require no tooth removal this is not necessarily true.  Unless your teeth are small with space between them some tooth structure may need to be reshaped to provide the proper fit of a porcelain veneer whether a Lumineer or traditional veneer.  What is most important is to choose the right type of porcelain veneer for the situation being treated.  The idea that one type of porcelain veneer will fit all situations is not true.  If a Lumineer is the right choice they can be used.  If not, than traditional porcelain veneer may be the best choice.  It is important to choice a doctor that will spend the time to explain why a particular type of veneer is the right choice for you.  You want a doctor that is well versed in all types of porcelain veneers with the proper training to perform these procedures.  This way you can avoid the “one size fits all” mentality and build a relationship with a doctor that can provide what is best for you.

Smile Makeover treating only 4 teeth

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Today we started a smile makeover treating only 4 teeth.  Initially the patient’s main concern was his crooked front teeth and was interested in porcelain veneers.  When we discussed his treatment options he realized that other than being crooked most of his teeth were attractive.  We discussed improving his smile with Invisalign first, whitening and porcelain veneers if needed.  Once his teeth were straight all that remained to improve his smile was 4 porcelain veneers placed on his upper front teeth to correct worn edges and replace old bonded fillings.  The temporary veneers were placed and shaped to act as the blue print and create a beautiful smile.  In two weeks he will return for placement of the final porcelain veneers.

Lumineers. So what are they?

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Lumineers.  So what are they?  We are often asked about Lumineers.  Lumineers are actually a type of porcelain veneers that has been marketed with a proprietary name.  Years ago the company made the decision to market their “brand” of porcelain veneers as Lumineers.  Traditional veneers like Lumineers are ultra thin custom fabricated pieces of porcelain that are fabricated and bonded to the existing tooth to change its color, shape, position or to restore decay.   The important thing to realize is that Lumineers may or may not be your best choice and do not fit all situations.  Lumineers may be right for you but instead of making one type of porcelain veneer fit all cases you want to see a dentist that is well versed in all techniques.  This way you can make the best choice.

The combination of Invisalign and Veneers to achieve a beautiful smile

Monday, July 27th, 2009

The combination of Invisalign and Veneers to achieve a beautiful smile.  We often see patients with very crooked teeth that are interested in improving their smile.  When this is the case a smile makeover can be achieved with porcelain veneers alone or perhaps just orthodontic treatment but when used to together the result is often greatly improved.  Orthodontic treatment with Invisalign allows for correcting the position of the teeth first.  Once the teeth are in a better position the use of porcelain veneers is a very predictable, minimally invasive way to correct the color, shape and worn appearance of the teeth.
