Take this test and change your life.

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Take this test and change your life.  Research has shown, not just once or twice but repeatedly, that for most people your smile outranks your eyes, hair and body as your most attractive feature.  It is probably also the first thing you notice or avoid when you look in the mirror or at a photograph of yourself. Only you know how your smile has affected your happiness and success.

Ask yourself:

Are you totally happy with the way your teeth and smile look?

Do you habitually hide your smile with your lips or your hands when you smile?

Do you try not to smile in front of others, especially people you don’t know or have terrific smiles?

When the camera comes out do you avoid smiling?

Would you like a smile that makes you feel proud and confident?

Once you have decided to improve your smile Dr. Lerner, Dr. Lemongello and our dental team is here to help you explore your options to improve your smile.  Teeth whitening, Veneers, Crowns, Implants, Invisalign all can help create your ideal smile often in only one or two visits.  We look forward to helping you pass this test.

Dental Myths exposed. Myth #1: All Dentists are the same.

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Dental Myths exposed.  Myth #1:  All Dentists are the same.  When we graduate from dental school we all have the same basic knowledge to become excellent dentists but as in any profession there are always those members of the group that excel.  It is what happens after dental school that distinguishes one dentist from another.  After dental school it is up to the dentist to expand his knowledge and hone his skill.  Dentistry is both an art and a science.  The art of dentistry is something that comes natural like art or sculpture.  That is why some doctors excel in cosmetics.  The science of dentistry is equally important.  It is in this way that the doctor stays current with all the latest techniques and technology available to offer the highest quality of care available.  That is why Drs Lerner and Lemongello attend hundreds of hours of continuing education each year at some of the most prestigious institutes of learning.  When they are not attending dental education seminars they are often teaching them.  This is how they maintain their experience and leadership in dentistry and earn the respect of their peers and their patients.  Dental Myth exposed.  No, not all dentists are the same, nor is the care and service you receive.  Our office is prepared to offer you exceptional doctors, exceptional care and exceptional service.

Lumineers, What are my options?

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Lumineers, What are my options?  Lumineers are one type of porcelain veneer designed for prep-less or minimal preparation type porcelain veneer cases.  It is important to realize that there is not just one certain brand of ceramic, one particular manufacturer, or one specific laboratory that can create prep-less veneers.  The prep-less or minimal prep veneer is a technique, not a specific product.  Any ceramic can be used, and there are many expert ceramists who can give you wonderful results.  Success is reliant on the skill of the dentist and the ceramist.  It is also dependent on case selection and proper diagnosis of what is the best material and technique to achieve the best result according to the patients’ expectation.    Prep-less veneers may not be indicated for every case or even the majority of the cases but it should be available as an option.  Like Dr. Lerner and Dr Lemongello the doctor needs to be versed and proficient in all techniques.  In our office we will listen to your needs and provide guidance for you to make an informed choice.

Lumineers. Are they right for you?

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Lumineers.  Are they right for you?  Lumineers, like traditional porcelain veneers, are ultra thin custom fabricated pieces of porcelain that are fabricated and bonded to the existing tooth to change its color, shape, position or to restore decay.   Lumineers are marketed as requiring no removal of tooth structure to enhance your smile.  The idea of removing mininmal amounts of tooth structure in the placement of veneers is not new.  In our office the goal has always been to be as minimally invasive as possible when providing porcelain veneers to enhance a smile.  Even though Lumineers claim to require no tooth removal this is not necessarily true.  Unless your teeth are small with space between them some tooth structure may need to be reshaped to provide the proper fit of a porcelain veneer whether a Lumineer or traditional veneer.  What is most important is to choose the right type of porcelain veneer for the situation being treated.  The idea that one type of porcelain veneer will fit all situations is not true.  If a Lumineer is the right choice they can be used.  If not, than traditional porcelain veneer may be the best choice.  It is important to choice a doctor that will spend the time to explain why a particular type of veneer is the right choice for you.  You want a doctor that is well versed in all types of porcelain veneers with the proper training to perform these procedures.  This way you can avoid the “one size fits all” mentality and build a relationship with a doctor that can provide what is best for you.

Is it better to have an Implant or a Root Canal?

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Is it better to have an Implant or a Root Canal?  This is a good question.  Let’s discuss dental implants.  If the tooth in question is not structurally sound than an implant should be considered and may be your best choice.  If less than at least 1/3 of your natural tooth remains there may not be enough tooth left to restore.  A root canal could be completed but the difficulty lies in restoring the tooth with long term success in mind.  There is a minimal amount of tooth structure necessary to restore a tooth.  If there is not enough to structure left than a large post or strut will most likely be required to help support a crown.  If the ratio of the post to crown is poor than the post itself may also weekend the tooth even more.  If there is not enough tooth structure left than the tooth should be removed and an implant and crown placed.  Otherwise you may be investing a lot of money to save a tooth with a poor prognosis.  Our office and Dr. Lerner or Dr. Lemongello can discuss your situation and advise you on your best option.

Is it better to have a Root Canal or an Implant?

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Is it better to have a Root Canal or an Implant?  This is a good question.  The answer is…..it depends on the condition of the tooth.  Let’s discuss Root Canal treatment.  If the tooth remains structurally sound and at least 1/3 of the tooth remains as a foundation to build onto than a Root canal may be the right treatment.  In order to save a tooth once treated with a root canal the tooth will usually require a crown to restore it to strength.  There is a critical limit of tooth structure required to be predictable long term.  If there isn’t than investing in the tooth may not be the best option long term.  What also needs to be understood is that this is still your natural tooth.  This means that this tooth could decay again and is prone to fracture just like any other restored tooth.  Our office and Dr. Lerner or Dr. Lemongello will discuss what your best option is in your specific case.

Cosmetic Dentist?

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Ever notice how every dentist now is a Cosmetic Dentist.  Any dentist can take a weekend course and consider themselves a cosmetic dentist.  Actually they don’t even need to take a course.  In today’s’ world just because a dentist has what appears to be a state of the art office doesn’t mean he is qualified in cosmetic dentistry. So how is a consumer hoping to transform their smile supposed to know who to choose?  One way is to ask the right questions!  Can the dentist show you before and after photos of other patients’ treated in the office?  Has the dentist taken hands on instruction in cosmetic dentistry?  Does the dentist teach these techniques to other dentists?  Do other specialists in the field recommend the dentist?  Can you personally speak to actual patients that have been treated?  In our office, Drs. Lerner and Lemongello can answer yes to all these questions.  Can the dentist you are considering treatment with do the same? If not perhaps you need to make an appointment in our office.
